WELCOME

Hello there everyone, and welcome to my blog (hats off to 'Blogging for Dummies' for teaching this dummy how to....you know!).

I am overweight; make that very overweight. I think the technical term is 'morbidly obese'....ouch! Over the last few years I have had a few health warning shots, enough to make me realise that although there is nothing going on with my health that can't be reversed; my time is running out to do something about it before something really bad happens.

So this is my journey to health, and the plan is an ambitious one. I want to lose weight, and I want to get fitter; fit enough to run the Manchester 10k in May of 2012, fit enough to run a half marathon towards the end of 2012, and then fit enough to run the London Marathon in 2013, where the blogging journey will end at the finish line down the Mall.

I write this in the hope that the words and thoughts of both myself and readers can inspire me when the journey gets difficult, then hopefully people can be inspired by my story; believing that the most difficult journey is possible.

I make a promise to you that I will be honest - if the wheels fall off and I have six pizzas in two days, I will come clean - and I will do my very best. Share it with me.

......Wish me luck!!

Weigh in (28)

(Training distance so far - 4.6miles)
The beauty of writing a blog is that you can specify the time at which it gets published; no doubt to throw bosses off the scent of people who write posts during office hours (I would never ever EVER do that Mr. Bossman....honest!). I have timed this one for publishing at exactly 16:12....as this is now my weight!
Slightly perturbed by the 5 pound loss (previous 17 stone 3 pounds) as it does seem to be quite a lot. Don't think I've done anything to cause such a dramatic change. I've settled back into a good diet after the excesses of the festive season (naughty Christmas, BAD Christmas....go to your room!!) without much of a problem. It's the exercise that has been the big contributor this time isn't it? Badminton match on Thursday, 5km run on Saturday, then a cheeky mile and a half last night. I also weighed in straight after I got home from last nights run, which is likely to make my weight extra-low. Do you think I analyse things a little too much? I'll try again......hey guys.....I lost weight!!........yay!! (Any better?) The great thing is that if I keep going in this vein for the coming week I will be back to - or hopefully below - my pre-Christmas weight..........

The run last night was great. Could I just say for the record that a 400m athletics track looks a lot smaller when you are watching it on the telly, and buff athletes are careering around it, than when you are on it (the closest thing to buff I will ever be is quite enjoying that vampire slayer person). It's huge (not the vampire slayer, the athletics track, although Buffy was a pretty good prog.......ok, stop now)! I was told I only had half an hour before the 'Bolton Harriers' came on at half six. Didn't have as much time on-track as I would have liked, but the receptionist gave me a free pass for next time (a simple act of kindness, she didn't have to do it but really nice of her) so I'll definitely be going back. There is certainly something quite meditative in doing track circuits. Meditative and.......what's the word?....... ......ummm.........oh yes...............exhausting!
Any road up; we are on our way again people. Weight going in the right direction, and running like a runny thing in runland (that sentence kind of got away from me a bit, but what the hell). Two nights off, then a badders match on Friday followed by the Heaton Park run Saturday morning.....I think this one might be harder as I know what to expect this time.
Anyway, back to work before someone notices what I am doing (......oops!)

@Wee_Ali
It will be less is more this Saturday. Am more concerned with running slower, for longer, without stopping. SO, the strategy is to position myself towards the back of the field and just 'plod'. If I can make it to say 3km without stopping then I will be a happy bunny. The good thing about the 5k at Heaton Park is that finishing that in one hit will mean I can do a lot more than 5k in a road run, as that kill is a hiller.....errr.........
