WELCOME

Hello there everyone, and welcome to my blog (hats off to 'Blogging for Dummies' for teaching this dummy how to....you know!).

I am overweight; make that very overweight. I think the technical term is 'morbidly obese'....ouch! Over the last few years I have had a few health warning shots, enough to make me realise that although there is nothing going on with my health that can't be reversed; my time is running out to do something about it before something really bad happens.

So this is my journey to health, and the plan is an ambitious one. I want to lose weight, and I want to get fitter; fit enough to run the Manchester 10k in May of 2012, fit enough to run a half marathon towards the end of 2012, and then fit enough to run the London Marathon in 2013, where the blogging journey will end at the finish line down the Mall.

I write this in the hope that the words and thoughts of both myself and readers can inspire me when the journey gets difficult, then hopefully people can be inspired by my story; believing that the most difficult journey is possible.

I make a promise to you that I will be honest - if the wheels fall off and I have six pizzas in two days, I will come clean - and I will do my very best. Share it with me.

......Wish me luck!!

Weigh in (30)

Training distance so far (10.6 miles)
Uncleeeeeeeeean.......uncleeeeeeeeeaaaaannnnnnnnnn (DONGGGGG!). Yes, my snogging days are over for the time being (aaaaah yes.....snogging.....I remember that.......) as I have the flu of man. It's that annoying 'not so bad to be off work, but bad enough for you to feel crappy while at work' type of....let's be honest here.....cold (having said that, not sure if being off work is all it's cracked up to be when you're ill, have you SEEN Jeremy Kyle?!). However, on a more positive note, I can currently do a bloody good impression of the Mysterons at the beginning of 'Captain Scarlet'.
I suppose that after a tough week last week, getting a cold is not a huge surprise; the best descriptive is 'run down'. I won't go into details (been there done that); but a tired Adrian usually results in Adrian being a poorly Adrian. But do not despair dear reader; despite the enforced Barry White impressions I have plenty to smile about. So while feeling bad, I feel pretty good......!

Managed to play a good match of badminton on Friday night (Oakgate, top o' the league; Oakgate Oakgate top o' the league), followed by run number three at Heaton Park (tougher this time, and severe conditions - quite possibly what saddled me with the cold; stopped once so I am happy with that)

A good Saturday with Mum; polishing off series 3 of Lark Rise to Candleford, and kicking off series 1 of Downton Abbey (why do I have that 'I could devour the lot in one sitting, Pride and Prejudice' feeling again while watching it?!). Mum was in great form which as always a big plus.

A free weekend coming up, which after the last three is most welcome, and most looked forward to. Nothing planned; I am just going to 'be'.

A week today, Mum, big sis and me are off to the MEN Arena for 'Strictly Come Dancing - Live'. Got the day off work, so we are starting at the Midland Hotel for champagne afternoon tea, then seats so close to the stage I could trip Nancy Del Olioioo up (for a small fee, it can be arranged....).

Now weighing in at 16 stone 11 pooonds (represents a 2 pound loss this week). Yay!

Could be a tricky weeky ahead, as my body - atchooo! choke, cough, splutter, sniff - is not very subtly telling me to take a break from exercise. No Heaton Park this Saturday, and no mid-week run, just not going to take the risk of turning a cold into something more severe (mildly annoyed; but no sense in getting ratty about it, whatever my reaction, the facts won't change so get on with it Ade). SO, need to be extra vigilant with the food, as there will be little burning of calories. This starts with stripping the remains of Gary the garlic chicken currently sat in my fridge (poor thing), and doing a bit of a mushroomy, chickenny, greek yoghurty, herby type thing with rice (you never hear Huge Furry Witlessstall talking like that do ya?!!).

You poor love ... stay warm, stay dosed with vit C, and be gentle with yourself. Glad you'll give the run a miss ... pile up with steamed veg instead and rest.
Big hugs (no kisses ... don't wanna risk your germs!), W-A x.

@Wee_Ali
Very good advice, advice that I will certainly take! Quick pop to the shops Saturday morning - possibly even Friday night - to stock up on healthy goodies. Might risk a little walk on Sunday, just to say I did SOME exercise! Also I will be writing blog posts for most of the weekend (not all to be published at once, don't get excited) as there is plenty to talk about. Got you curious now haven't I??!! xx
