WELCOME

Hello there everyone, and welcome to my blog (hats off to 'Blogging for Dummies' for teaching this dummy how to....you know!).

I am overweight; make that very overweight. I think the technical term is 'morbidly obese'....ouch! Over the last few years I have had a few health warning shots, enough to make me realise that although there is nothing going on with my health that can't be reversed; my time is running out to do something about it before something really bad happens.

So this is my journey to health, and the plan is an ambitious one. I want to lose weight, and I want to get fitter; fit enough to run the Manchester 10k in May of 2012, fit enough to run a half marathon towards the end of 2012, and then fit enough to run the London Marathon in 2013, where the blogging journey will end at the finish line down the Mall.

I write this in the hope that the words and thoughts of both myself and readers can inspire me when the journey gets difficult, then hopefully people can be inspired by my story; believing that the most difficult journey is possible.

I make a promise to you that I will be honest - if the wheels fall off and I have six pizzas in two days, I will come clean - and I will do my very best. Share it with me.

......Wish me luck!!

Weigh in (21)

I know what you're thinking......did he??.....didn't he???......... I assure you, your hooks will not be nearly as tentered (although to be fair, I do not own any hooks; and even if I did I would not have a clue how to tenter them) as mine were when I got on the scales last night. In answer to your question, I did........and I didn't!
The scales showed a weight of 16 stone, 13.8 pounds. So I have broken the 17 barrier; yay me!! I confess that I did a little dance in the kitchen and there was much whooping, punching of the air and general merry making. At first, I didn't even feel bad at the thought of having to round the figure up to 16 stone 14 pounds ('0.2 pounds in the kitty for next week' I said to myself)..........
until it slowly dawned on me that 16 stone 14 pounds also goes by a another name............17 blummin' stone!!!!! However the rounding-up rules state that this is my official result this week.
Be aware here, that it was a week of no badminton matches, a rather lovely large chips last Tuesday night, and the lottery of bonfire night mulled wine, lager, burgers and parkin (the cake, not the valet service). So I am anything but dismayed at this result. the upsides.......

With me teetering on the brink, a good week now will REALLY get me stuck into the 16 stone zone (love that line; when I do, I think I will tell someone on the phone that I am in the 16 stone zone!).
I do not have to start running yet!! I hope I have told you before (and if I haven't, I beg your forgiveness) that I get my jogging shoes on once I hit the 16's.
I can enjoy one more week of chips as my banner; although 'some people' (mentioning no names..........coughcoughcoughalicough) have never approved of it! When running takes more precedence than the weight loss, I promised a more suitable picture for the new me. I confess I like the chips picture (you don't gain any weight by licking a computer screen...) but it will hopefully be time to move on next week.

One more positivity to take from this last week, is a significant increase to my wardrobe. I've not bought any new clothes; instead - in a desperate 'no washing done and what do I wear for work' panic - I had a go at trying on a pair of trousers which had not fit me for yeeeeears. The last time I recall trying them on, there was no way on earth (not even with the pull-so-hard-on-the-fabric-you-almost-rip-it-and-that-button-is-going-to-go-GADOINGing-off-into-the-atmosphere-if-you-so-much-as-consider-breathing-in technique) I could get the fabric to meet over my bulbous belly. I am wearing them now, and they are a nice, comfortable fit. Can't wait to try on a few more of those 'not a chance mate' garments which have been lurking - lonely and unused - for so long!

Anyway...onwards and up......errrr.......downwards......!!
