Distance trained so far......(60.8 miles)
I was sat in front of the television at 8 o'clock this morning; a very strange feeling, as I was watching the start of the 2012 London Marathon. I guess that means we're at the twelve months to go point then!
It is a belief I always have not to look too far into the future when you have a big task on your hands, but 'take it in lots of small steps, and they will get you where you want to go.' But today it is staring at me in the face from my own TV, and right now all I can see is the very distant, almost unreachable chequered flag. Don't worry, this will be of short duration, and the 364 days-to-go point won't have nearly as much impact; but right now all I can think of is 26 miles and 365 yards........compared with the fact that at the moment I can just about manage 4. In case you didn't know, it's a bloody long way; and it scares the hell out of me.
I wonder how many tasks and ambitions fall short for the same reason. Something that looks utterly impossible when all you can see is the end, and forget that with a little patience and time - and belief that it is worth the patience and time - anything is possible. I still believe it, and scared though I may be; with one year to go I still believe I can do it. I've already registered with the British Heart Foundation for a place..........
WELCOME
Hello there everyone, and welcome to my blog (hats off to 'Blogging for Dummies' for teaching this dummy how to....you know!).
I am overweight; make that very overweight. I think the technical term is 'morbidly obese'....ouch! Over the last few years I have had a few health warning shots, enough to make me realise that although there is nothing going on with my health that can't be reversed; my time is running out to do something about it before something really bad happens.
So this is my journey to health, and the plan is an ambitious one. I want to lose weight, and I want to get fitter; fit enough to run the Manchester 10k in May of 2012, fit enough to run a half marathon towards the end of 2012, and then fit enough to run the London Marathon in 2013, where the blogging journey will end at the finish line down the Mall.
I write this in the hope that the words and thoughts of both myself and readers can inspire me when the journey gets difficult, then hopefully people can be inspired by my story; believing that the most difficult journey is possible.
I make a promise to you that I will be honest - if the wheels fall off and I have six pizzas in two days, I will come clean - and I will do my very best. Share it with me.
......Wish me luck!!
