Distance trained so far...........(107.5 miles)
Back to earth with a bit of a bump this week I'm afraid; a total of three pound on, weighing me in at a slightly heftier 16 stone 8 pounds. Boooooooo hisssssssssss!
Surprising you might think; considering that somewhere in there I did that Great Manchester run thingy (I really didn't want to talk about it, I like to keep things like that quiet; but there you go, you forced it out of me. It was 10km don't you know?!!). Then when you include the facts that since the run I have been eating like a bit of a trog, suddenly it starts to cross the border from without to within the realm of possibility..........
Yes, the pasta swimming in a block of cream cheese the evening before and the Chinese takeaway the evening after (oh no, not a 'regular' Chinese takeaway; this one was chicken fried rice - one meal - washed down with sweet and sour chicken and boiled rice - another meal - and may I say it was (or rather both were) scrumdiddly; as was the prawn crackers....) certainly did nothing to help. In addition to that I haven't been too vigilant as to what I have been eating the past seven days. A fair bit of grazing, and the odd shop-bought sandwich for lunch; not good. Oh, and I missed Tuesday night's sesh at the gym.
I know what you are thinking.....'Adrian, you are allowed a week like this. Your focus has quite rightly been on the run, and you can certainly be excused for taking your eye off the weight loss just this once'....and do you know, for one of those rare moments I am going to listen to you (don't get used to it!) as you are absolutely right. This has been such a positive week, and even 3 pounds on (actually only 2.6!) is not going to come close to getting anywhere near the 30 mile exclusion zone of dampening my soaring spirits.
That said, it is time to get back into the usual routine tonight, the rucksack is packed, the water bottle is full, and the gym awaits. I promise I will resist the temptation to grab the first person I see and tell them what I did on Sunday............well.......at least I will try and resist.........but if they walk up to me and say 'excuse me?! I recognise your face......didn't you finish 21,440th in the Great Manchester run??' all bets are off!
WELCOME
Hello there everyone, and welcome to my blog (hats off to 'Blogging for Dummies' for teaching this dummy how to....you know!).
I am overweight; make that very overweight. I think the technical term is 'morbidly obese'....ouch! Over the last few years I have had a few health warning shots, enough to make me realise that although there is nothing going on with my health that can't be reversed; my time is running out to do something about it before something really bad happens.
So this is my journey to health, and the plan is an ambitious one. I want to lose weight, and I want to get fitter; fit enough to run the Manchester 10k in May of 2012, fit enough to run a half marathon towards the end of 2012, and then fit enough to run the London Marathon in 2013, where the blogging journey will end at the finish line down the Mall.
I write this in the hope that the words and thoughts of both myself and readers can inspire me when the journey gets difficult, then hopefully people can be inspired by my story; believing that the most difficult journey is possible.
I make a promise to you that I will be honest - if the wheels fall off and I have six pizzas in two days, I will come clean - and I will do my very best. Share it with me.
......Wish me luck!!
