I cannot quite believe that this thing has been kicking on for 19 weeks now; blimey!
Sorry about the later-than-usual posting, but you were warned! I am afraid I really wasn't hugely surprised when I popped on the scales; the negatives far outweighed (literally) the positives this week. On the credit side of the weight-loss balance sheet were a couple of hours of social badminton last Friday, and the usual no-excessive-booze, no-fast-food pledge; the debit side was quite a bit too much bread (it's amazing what you can make into a sandwich when you really put your mind to it!), no additional exercise (zero badminton matches), and I went a bit fast and loose on the business trip to London......
As always I will come clean. Two pints of lager, a 9 ounce burger with all the trimmings and chips, onion rings and two slices of cheesey garlic bread (GAAAAAAARLIC BREAD?!!), topped off by a chocolate fudge brownie Sundae......and it doesn't end there. Full english breakfast the following morning, then at a suppliers lunchtime meeting they put on sausage rolls, sandwiches, mini pork pies and chocolate teacakes (it would literally have been rude not to!). The weigh-in happened approximately 6 hours after the last teacake was consumed,
On reflection, it is actually a bit of a miracle that I have only put on 2 pounds! Now 17 stone 6. Frustrating I know; I feel next week is the clincher. If I can knock off a few pounds then at least the uppy and downy nature of my weight at the moment will still be in a downward direction. In my best Obi-wan-kenobi impression (Alec Guinness, not the Mcgregor fella); 'this is a dangerous time for you young Skywalker, when you will be tempted by the dark side'. I feel I am at a bit of a junction, when it is getting a bit trickier to lose the weight; but if I get over the 'hump', I will be able to maintain it and go on a good run of weeks. It's going to be difficult for a fortnight though, as this weekend I am heading down to my brother's for a Halloween do with my nephew and niece (lots of burgers, cakes and booze flying around), then it's our bonfire party the week after (lots of burgers, cakes, booze and fireworks flying around). Temptation will be everywhere. If I can get through it and still lose weight, that will be a result and an 'arf that will!
WELCOME
Hello there everyone, and welcome to my blog (hats off to 'Blogging for Dummies' for teaching this dummy how to....you know!).
I am overweight; make that very overweight. I think the technical term is 'morbidly obese'....ouch! Over the last few years I have had a few health warning shots, enough to make me realise that although there is nothing going on with my health that can't be reversed; my time is running out to do something about it before something really bad happens.
So this is my journey to health, and the plan is an ambitious one. I want to lose weight, and I want to get fitter; fit enough to run the Manchester 10k in May of 2012, fit enough to run a half marathon towards the end of 2012, and then fit enough to run the London Marathon in 2013, where the blogging journey will end at the finish line down the Mall.
I write this in the hope that the words and thoughts of both myself and readers can inspire me when the journey gets difficult, then hopefully people can be inspired by my story; believing that the most difficult journey is possible.
I make a promise to you that I will be honest - if the wheels fall off and I have six pizzas in two days, I will come clean - and I will do my very best. Share it with me.
......Wish me luck!!
