WELCOME

Hello there everyone, and welcome to my blog (hats off to 'Blogging for Dummies' for teaching this dummy how to....you know!).

I am overweight; make that very overweight. I think the technical term is 'morbidly obese'....ouch! Over the last few years I have had a few health warning shots, enough to make me realise that although there is nothing going on with my health that can't be reversed; my time is running out to do something about it before something really bad happens.

So this is my journey to health, and the plan is an ambitious one. I want to lose weight, and I want to get fitter; fit enough to run the Manchester 10k in May of 2012, fit enough to run a half marathon towards the end of 2012, and then fit enough to run the London Marathon in 2013, where the blogging journey will end at the finish line down the Mall.

I write this in the hope that the words and thoughts of both myself and readers can inspire me when the journey gets difficult, then hopefully people can be inspired by my story; believing that the most difficult journey is possible.

I make a promise to you that I will be honest - if the wheels fall off and I have six pizzas in two days, I will come clean - and I will do my very best. Share it with me.

......Wish me luck!!

Weigh in (43)

I ask you, what do I have to do????! WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO in order to lose weight two weeks in a row???!!!!! This is becoming utterly ridiculous. For the first time I think in the entire course of this adventure, I actually got on the scales feeling absolutely sure beyond any doubt that I had lost weight; absolutely sure that this would be the week. As it turned out....I was absolutely right......two pounds off, weighing me in at an exact 16 stone 8 pounds (sorry!!! couldn't resist....Wee Ali made me do it...honest!!).
The beyond doubt feeling was true. It's been a really good week. Three trips to the gym - plenty of meaty treadmill (FFG) action - and a bit of social badminton thrown in; add to this planting fruit trees and shovelling compost (I felt like such a man!) and a pretty good diet, and that is certainly a recipe for whoooopadeedoooo!.....
It has been a long time since two consecutive weight-losses, and it feels OH so very good to break the yo-yo cycle (now that sounds like a cool toy). I've said previously that if I can get over this sticky patch, that it's onwards to break 16 stone, but in actual fact there is just as much chance of me putting on weight this coming week as last. Let's not get carried away, but I am pleased to confirm that confidence and positivity are high. The control is back; hopefully here to stay!
There is cause for optimism for the week ahead too. The usual routine of gym visits (including an 8k run on Sunday morning; bloody hell, did I really just say 8k????) will be accompanied by the badminton club championships men singles tournament; which in a fit of rash exuberance I decided to enter. I have as much chance as a chilly sphere of ice in a hades, but I will most definitely get a work out as some of those lads are extraordinarily - and annoyingly - athletic. So exercise won't be a problem. I'm also enjoying cooking healthy food, with plenty of lean meat, if lacking on the nuts! (private joke), and the fridge is full of healthy goodies so no need to be tempted by naughtiness (although it's Man City v Man Utd on Monday, so that will be a stern test of my resolve not to relapse). If we chuck in a bit of gardening - as I don't have a garden, should it be called 'yarding'? - there is no reason why I shouldn't be delivering some more good news this time next week. I hope I don't end up eating these words; although I do enjoy eating, they really don't taste nice!

Well done sir!
On an unrelated note, your email seems to have been hacked I'm afraid. But you probably already know that.

@Gavin Thanks Gav. Yes people on my address book are getting weirdy e-mails. Could you let me know if they persist and I'll do some fiddling.

Fab news.... am v excited that the yo-yoing has ceased. And did you say 8k?? Wow ... am impressed. The big hugs from me are getting smaller, but no less heart-felt.

@Wee_Ali
Thanks my dear; it is a lovely feeling when people keep highlighting that I've lost lots of weight (preen....preen...smug smile....). Yep, 8k on Sunday and that will be the max in training, trusting that the thrill of the race will be enough to see me through the last 2!
