WELCOME

Hello there everyone, and welcome to my blog (hats off to 'Blogging for Dummies' for teaching this dummy how to....you know!).

I am overweight; make that very overweight. I think the technical term is 'morbidly obese'....ouch! Over the last few years I have had a few health warning shots, enough to make me realise that although there is nothing going on with my health that can't be reversed; my time is running out to do something about it before something really bad happens.

So this is my journey to health, and the plan is an ambitious one. I want to lose weight, and I want to get fitter; fit enough to run the Manchester 10k in May of 2012, fit enough to run a half marathon towards the end of 2012, and then fit enough to run the London Marathon in 2013, where the blogging journey will end at the finish line down the Mall.

I write this in the hope that the words and thoughts of both myself and readers can inspire me when the journey gets difficult, then hopefully people can be inspired by my story; believing that the most difficult journey is possible.

I make a promise to you that I will be honest - if the wheels fall off and I have six pizzas in two days, I will come clean - and I will do my very best. Share it with me.

......Wish me luck!!

Weigh in (45)

This is getting boring now. Whatever happened to the days when I used to lose weight only to gain the week after. At least there was a bit of variety; now it's just weight loss, week after week........YAAAAAAAWWN!!
Yep, you guessed it folks; another pound off and it's down to 16 stone 6 pounds (for those who love nits to pick, I have actually lost 1.4 pounds as I am 16st 6lb dead (not dead as in dead; dead as in with no remainder (unless of course we are talking about the second decimal place; in which case......oh crap......see what all that nitpicking has done? Now I've got to finish with three closed brackets.....I hope you're proud of yourselves....)))........
I am a bit surprised, as I've not really been pure and saintly this week (no change there then). You already know about the Chinese takeaway the evening after Weigh in (44), and since then it has been a night out at the Whitefield end of season badminton league dance (meat and potato pie with mushy peas, followed by carrot cake and washed down with a couple of beers) and a Saturday with my Mum, lolled in front of the FA Cup final (Marks and Spencers finest chuck-in-the-oven stuff.......
biiiiiiiiiiig plates under the excuse of 'giving my Mum a decent meal'. It would have been rude not to join her!). When I weighed in I expected to have put on weight, but the only thing which gave me hope is that I felt (and indeed still feel) really good; not sure how, but I felt lighter! Got to be careful this week though, as the chasm before my feet known as the 'I can get away with eating naughty trap' lies beneath my feet. As a result I was sorely tempted to have another Chinese takeaway last night, but am very proud to report that - even after a gym session, with time limited - I went for a stir fry! That two pounds of lard made it taste delicious too (just kidding)! Asides from the weeks deviations I must have been a good boy; and of course I am maintaining the three gym visits a week. It's hard to believe that I am already on my 22nd gym session, and even harder to believe that a distance of 3km which I was SO struggling to reach at the start is now not nearly enough to provide a challenge!
Yes yes, I can't help thinking that if I had eaten properly AND exercised then more weight would have come off; but when that thought crosses my mind - even briefly - I give myself a bit of a slap and tell myself 'hey, don't be daft; you've lost weight so shaddappayouface'. So if you see someone walking down the street, talking like Joe Dolce; it's probably me!

One more weigh in before the you-know-what.......

PS I will keep updating the photographic progress over here on the right, but I was thinking about chucking in a 'general stuff' slideshow. Nothing incriminating, I promise! What do you think?

Fabbadeedo! This is great news, and just goes to show that once you've reached the point where you're no longer actively trying to loose weight, you'll be able to maintain a healthy weight even with a few big meals thrown in. V. proud of you not giving into the temptation of the take-away last night :-)
Go for it with the "general stuff" slideshow, so long as I'm not general!! (No, I'm a unique and precious individual!!!!) Ha!
Keep smiling,
W-A xxx.

@Wee_Ali
Would you like me to create a 'special slide show' only for you?! xx Thanks again my lovely, and please pleeeeease could you do me the honour of saying the word 'fabbadeedoo' to me in person? I'll chuck £100 in to my own sponsorship if you do!! Even better; record it and I will use it as a mobile phone ringtone!! xxx
